If individualism is identified as "doing what is best for the individual" or "putting the individual before the good of the community," I'm not sure that puts the response in the best of light - out of context anyway. Did he also say that or is that someone else?
Do we really want a world - a nation - where everyone thinks only of himself? Perhaps we have gone too far the other way as we provide free education, meals, healthcare, etc. to those who do not appreciate it, but does that mean swing to the other end of the spectrum and enforce "every man for himself"?
